Green Mountain Rally

2010 Rally Wrapup - By Tyler Yandow
If you didn't make it to the Green Mountain Rally, reading this won't make you feel any better! We had a great time.

Although several riders hit intermittent showers on their way north, most of us had a relatively dry trip to Camp Thorpe. The weather Saturday was nothing less than perfect for riding, sunny with temperatures in the 70's. You could not have asked for a more beautiful day.

GMR 2010
As always the kitchen crew headed by John Fish and Bob LaDuc did an outstanding job satisfying our appetites. Everyone who volunteered to help in the kitchen deserves big thanks from all of us. Those who worked breakfast got up well before sunrise to have the meal ready.

I also want to acknowledge Muriel Farrington, Jeff Seymour, Lynn Roberts, and David Steiner who spent much of the weekend working the registration desk. And without Ted Hall acting as captain of the ship, we would have been sunk for sure. Ted works tirelessly organizing and checking on every part of the rally so that we have smooth sailing when everyone arrives. Thank you Ted, for another terrific weekend.

Friday night was highlighted by the second appearance of the Snake Mountain Bluegrass band at the GMR. We were privileged to have such talented musicians volunteer to play for us well into the evening. There was hardly a hand or foot not tapping all night.

Since last year Camp Thorpe has added a beautiful covered pavilion adjacent to the dining hall. This was a great place to enjoy a meal or just hang out with friends, new and old. The camp is now raising money to add a paved patio area connected to the pavilion and is offering personalized, commemorative bricks for a $100 donation. If you have any inclination towards making a charitable donation, please consider Camp Thorpe. For us it is an ideal place for the rally, and our support will help assure we will be there in years to come.

The closing ceremony Saturday evening was highlighted by a tribute to Paul Bachorz who passed away on September 2nd. Paul was an inspiration to nearly all of us and will be greatly missed. Several people spoke of their experiences with him and of his commitment to our club and motorcycling in general. He may be gone but will never be forgotten.

Muriel presented certificates of appreciation to Ted Hall, John Fish, and George Haggerty for their continuous work at the rally over many years, and to Bud Provin for 28 years of continuous rally attendance. Nearly half the registered riders took home a door prize thanks to the generosity of numerous donors. For those lucky ones please make an effort to contact the donor to express your personal appreciation. If you are not sure who donated your prize, please drop me an email or feel free to call. These donations are significant, particularly in these difficult economic times. A small effort on your part will let these folks know their gifts are not taken for granted.
